This Friday the Woods’ reserve team travelled to Parmiter’s School in Garston to take on Spartan South Midlands League Division One side Kings Langley, and although the Woods gave a very good account of themselves the home side won by two goals to one.

Northwood created the first chance after eight minutes but Ryan Lee could not keep his shot down and he blasted the chance over the crossbar. Two minutes later, however, the referee awarded the home side a dubious penalty after the ball bounced up and hit Ryan Davern-Simpson on the arm. Justice was done when the spot-kick was crashed against the foot of the post and the Woods cleared their lines.

In the 14th minute Kings should have taken the lead when an unchallenged header in a central position went wide. Victor Asombang had a good chance for Woods shortly after, but just like Ryan earlier he blasted the ball over from a central position. Garry Malone was called into action twice before the interval, making good saves to deny the opposition the opening goal.

With only five minutes of the second half gone Kings Langley opened the scoring when Garry Malone was beaten low down to his right hand side, but that lead was short-lived as Woods were awarded a penalty and Jamel Mattan stepped up and stroked the ball into the net.

Although Northwood created a couple of chances that were saved or went over the crossbar, Kings Langley put the visiting defence under pressure, and this pressure told in the 77th minute when Kings Langley found the top corner giving Garry no chance in the Northwood goal.

This was a very good workout for the reserves, and team manager Mick Bradshaw was pleased with the overall performance.
